Weather often affects people’s moods. Sunlight breaking through clouds can lift our spirits, while a dull, rainy day may make us feel a little gloomy. While noticeable, these shifts in mood generally do not affect our ability to cope with daily life. Some people, however, are vulnerable to a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern. For them, the shortening days of late autumn are the beginning of a type of clinical depression that can last until spring. This condition is called “Seasonal Affective Disorder,” or SAD.
I cope with depression and I always find that it gets worse as the winter goes on. I’m tired and glum most days and I don’t want to go out of the house. I chose the picture at the top because some days, that’s how I feel. When this “mood” persists for over two weeks, you need to see a health care professional for help. You may have SAD.
Reiki helps depression and “the blues”. When we clear and balance our systems (body, mind, spirit), we feel renewed and fresh. Reiki also helps in bringing things to the surface that may be causing your depressive symptoms. Unresolved issues cause inner stress and conflict that if left unhealed causes illness and depression.
Conventional therapy methods for SAD include, light therapy, counselling, and medication. Reiki can offer dramatic relief to those who suffer with SAD, but it’s always wise to combine your treatments with ones you can continue at home such as light therapy and counselling if needed. In severe cases, medication is needed to help with depression.
I have always incorporated energy healing into my self-help routine in the past six years. It brings about faster healing, grounding, and balance to my life. Being your best self begins with taking charge of your own well-being. Everyone deserves an inner sense of peace and happiness. Make that choice today.
