I LOVE this time of year! I love the changing of the leaves, and the beauty of fall, putting our sweaters on, and snuggling in warm blankets. I love heading into the time of reflection, slowing down and turning in. In some ways respite. The earth is preparing to hibernate. Animals are gathering and storing food to survive the cold winter, and nature is shedding leaves and dying, thus ending another cycle of growth and abundance. This is necessary to be able to enter into a new cycle of growth in the spring time.
Mabon, which is on and around September 21, marks the middle of harvest. It is a time of equal day and equal night, and for the moment nature is in balance. It is a time to reap what you have sown, of giving thanks for the harvest and the bounty the Earth provides. For finishing up old projects and plans and planting the seeds for new projects or a change in lifestyle. Mabon is also a time of celebration and balance.
This coming New Moon in Libra is the time to clean up, clear out, and unclutter our living space, our mind, and our lives. This New Moon can help us cut through the trash and treasures, and more importantly will help us differentiate between the two! Libra loves balance, beauty, neatness and simplicity and finds refuge in the balance of the fall equinox.
When we work with the sign Libra, we find our lives are more aligned and in tune with what we really need, and more importantly what we should toss. Remember how good it feels once you clean up your desk top, your closet, any area of chaos — what a burden is lifted off of your shoulders! It’s as if a wave of enlightenment swathes us with the ability to be free — free of those annoying areas of our life that are holding us back –making us lazy, and allowing us to just bob along on a tide of distraction and lethargy.
This time period may also allow us to evaluate our personal relationships, are there toxic people in your life — always putting you down and nay-saying your plans. It might be the right time to break away from those who always make you feel less than yourself. You know who they are — and it is your right to eliminate those who always bring you down. Make the tough decisions to clean up your personal life along with your physical world. It is time for a clean slate to be written upon, and only you should be writing the story of your own life!
The New Moon is a time to reflect on our dark side, our shadow self. When we become familiar with this often invisible and sub-conscious part of ourselves, it opens doors to understanding our whole being and why we do what we do. We understand how we have created our physical world built on our inner belief system. Acknowledging your shadow side enables you to change and heal what doesn’t work for your highest good. This gives you control of your creative process and personal growth, being able to create what you want by healing and banishing the things that are standing in the way of your total happiness, and filling those spaces with new and proactive thinking and behaviours.

Tonight I seek balance in my life

A black candle for darkness and pain
and things I can eliminate from my life.
A white candle for the light, and for joy
and all the abundance I wish to bring forth.
At Mabon, the time of the equinox,
there is harmony and balance in the Universe,
and so there shall be in my life.
Meditate on the things you wish to change. Write a list of the things you want to change, and a list of things you want to attract in your life. Visualize letting go of the things that you are banishing. See them floating away and disolving into the atmosphere. How does it feel to not be burdened by these things anymore? Feel how light and free you feel. Light your banishing list on fire and burn it in your cauldron or container.
Now focus on your goals and dreams. Picture how your life will be when you reach these goals. How does it feel? Bask in these feelings and send them out into the universe. Ask your guides to guide you in this process and to make you aware of the signs, information, and people who will come into your path to bring you to your goal. Keep this list for inspiration, or burn it with your white candle. As the flames burn, visualize these things coming into your life. Send this vibrational energy out into the universe to gather and bring back the same vibration which you have sent forth with this ritual. So it is. Thank and dismiss your guides. Close your circle. Ground yourself.
Focus on eliminating the bad, and strengthening the good around you. Put toxic relationships into the past, where they belong, and welcome new positive relationships into your life. Let your baggage go, and take heart in knowing that for every dark night of the soul, there will be a sunrise the next morning.
