The Dark Moon…so scary and mysterious sounding. A time when witches conjure up evil and summon the dead…WAIT WHAT!?? Maybe in Hollywood movies, or teenage witchcraft games, but in reality, it’s nothing like that. Witchcraft throughout history doesn’t label things good or evil or bad or good. Good and evil actually exists together and relates to the Principal of Polarity. You can’t have one without the other. For example, expressing love by one may be seen as meddling by another. Thus, we have no absolutes; all things exist on a gradient from one pole to another. OK, enough of the science class, and back to the Moon.
The Dark Moon to me is one of the most valuable time in the moon cycle if you practice personal growth like I do. This is a time of deep inner reflection, and self examination, that is absolutely necessary to do in order to implement change in your life. The energy of the Dark Moon is powerful and can be scary, pulling you into the depths of hidden issues and problems that you keep tucked inside. Digging deep inside yourself to analyze and diagnose your inner self is hard, but important. Washing away the junk and blocks that are standing in your way is and important step before being able to manifest anything new into your life. You have to clean out the closet so to speak, before you can put new clothes in. Shadow Work is what you do, not to “conquer the dark part of yourself”, but to acknowledge and integrate different parts of your soul and being together. It’s about acknowledging the parts of our past, and personality that are standing in our way. These are the traits that keep you in dysfunctional cycles, addiction, and repeating the same mistakes. The deep ingrained patterns and beliefs of the sub-conscious mind. It’s absolutely necessary to face in order to heal and move on. It’s messy, but crucial, and you only become a more powerful person by doing the work.
Before I go on, I must tell you that I stopped syncing my personal growth with the moon cycles a long time ago. Drawing in, and letting go every two weeks got a tad overwhelming. Since I’m always on the road of change, I tend to just go with the energy I’m working with, and most of the time things are already in sync with astrology automatically. If I am doing important conjure work, I’ll take the time to time and sync everything up for maximum results. One of the ways I have used the energy of the Dark Moon is for Shadow Work for personal growth.
I use Dark Moon energy is to dig deep into myself. Always create an energetic safe space (circle) before you do any spell or energetic work. I call in my guides and Deities to help me, and show me what I need to see and accept what is standing in my way. Light a black candle for cleansing and protection. I always write down my intentions, and when I really tune in, I automatic write. If you begin to meditate and unpleasant things pop up, write them down, and just keep going. This information might not be pleasant, or what you want to hear, but it’s what you need to see. Training yourself to look at things as just “information” helps. Being a non- judgmental observer in your life also helps you to accept what we call “negative”. Being able to see and accept these parts of yourself and life gives you wisdom, personal power, and insight not only into yourself, but with others also. You take control of the steering wheel of you life.
What ever your belief system, working with energy and the natural cycle of the universe, can add extra power to your goals and intentions. Always be willing to stretch your mind and knowledge base.
